Characteristics

The gray heron has a gray body and is yellow-brown on its bill and feet. It grows black ornamental feathers on its white head, and its neck is long and gray-white. Its flight feathers are black. During the breeding season, the bird’s feet turn bright red.
Habits: The gray heron flies slowly and gracefully, and is the largest heron species in Taiwan. When standing among a flock of egrets, it is exceptionally eye-catching.

Birdwatching period: September-May

Distribution

The gray heron often appears around saltpans, ponds, marshes, and other aquatic environments and is often around other herons.
